Picture Thiefs

Bailey be Good was kind enough to inform the pet community of an attack on our personal property yesterday. I wish I could say this is the first time I have had Internet property stolen. Sadly, it is not.

I am committing to learning more about protecting myself and fighting back. If you want pictures, there are legitimate sites that offer free pictures. Morgue Files is one place to go for free pictures. There are others if you do not wish to take your own or pay for use. You do not just go to random blogs and websites and steal from others.

I have written about people stealing on my craft blog. Sadly, I did not anticipate the need to write about it on my dog blog. I own the pictures, they are not free to use just because you happen to like them. It is called STEALING.

There is a completely new skill set I need to learn to protect my blogs from people who cannot understand the idea of property rights. Not that I had other plans for this week I needed a new project. Thankfully, there are wonderful people in the blogging community willing to share their knowledge. Unfortunately, all acknowledge no system is safe against people willing to steal the work of others. However, we can make it as challenging as possible.

UPDATE

After following Bailey be Good's lead I contacted the publisher yesterday and while I am reviewing the only pictures still showing on the site are the ones with Blog Paws URL's. While all of them have my name, not all of them are my pictures or were on my page there which confuses me. I also am not sure if these can be removed without Blog Paws complaining. I have not been able to find any Sheltie Times URL's on the page.

  1. How did you know someone stole he pictures?

I do nothing to protect my photos from thieves.

  2. They are your pictures. Taking them and posting on their own website without permission to make money is stealing. This is warehouse stripping of blogs and websites. This particular thief didn't even care about those who had done the precautions. There are postings that appear there with the warnings on them and they just left them and moved on to steal from others.

  3. I have heard of it but I don't know how to check whether our pictures are used by others and I haven't a clue how to protect my pictures either. I'm not good at computer stuff at all, it seems I've to wait until Rosie is home to help me out.

  4. I'm in the same boat, I have no idea how to protect my pictures.

I'm really sorry this happened to you. I just don't understand why people are so horrible.

  5. Sorry you are having to deal with this. I have had similar issues with content being stolen from my website. Unfortunately, there will always be people who are too lazy to do the work on their own.

  6. This is just horrible! We had so many pictures on the site in questions. Even pics of my kids, we took action too!

  7. It has made me more aware. I just sent a note to a different website that not only ripped off my picture but my highest ranking article on the site. It is a pathetic way to do business.

  8. Jen that is one of the reasons I am paranoid about posting personal pictures on the Internet. The dogs are the furthest I have gone, but I avoid people at all costs. There is never any excuse for people taking what does not belong to them. However, I have come to expect that they will.

My craft photographs are constantly popping up.

  9. How do you even check to see if people are using your pictures without permission unless you just stumble across them? I don't mind if someone wants to use one of my pictures as an example of something, or for a computer background, etc., but I would object to my pictures being used without my permission to help someone else make money.

  10. I found an article someone stole from this blog today by searching for my blog title. The article title appeared in the search and when I went to the site sure enough there was my article and picture with no acknowledgements or anything. Oddly it had nothing to do with the person's topic, they just stole it because the title had high search value.

  11. I am sorry this happened to you!
For the rest of you, if you google "disable right click" or copyright protection, things like that, you will find codes and resources to protect your blog.

  13. can you tell us the name of the site that is doing this so that we may check and see if our stuff is there? Someone today told me about someone who is taking photos and linking...I don't have the name or link any longer but sure enough when I went there I typed in my blog's name and my header came up. They had all kinds of blog headers there. The person who told me about this said someone else is working on reporting the site that is doing this. If you have the name of the site would you mind sharing it with us?

  14. I have Bailey be Good's blog linked and she has all the information set out in a much better way than I can.

  15. I found this free program to put watermarks on your photos. I am using one that will 'tile' the watermark and should have those up tonight if you are interested in seeing what it looks like before you use it.

  16. Hi!! I'm sooo glad you got your images removed. A few people have contacted Blogpaws to let them know about the site with their photos, including me (and they are the ones who need to contact that site to have them removed).

Just so you know -- about the disable right-click function, mommy says that just because the right-click function is disabled, doesn't mean people can't see your code and images. All you have to do is click 'view source' in your browser, and everything's right there for all to see. Disabling the right-click really just annoys many people 'cause it makes it hard to open links in a new tab or window, etc.

You're right though... there is no fool-proof way to protect your stuff, even if your images have a copyright on them. But you sure can make things difficult. ;)

    Woofs & hugs!

    ~Bailey
