The search for a New Friend

Well friends Dog Dad and Mom have begun the search for a new friend for me. I miss Katy terribly and living alone is just not in the cards for me.

After having three Shelties Mom and Dad are entering new territory they are talking a puppy. While Bailey was a puppy when they got him he was Mom's miracle rescue a puppy that was fully housebroken when he came home. This means starting from scratch and they are both excited and a bit scared at the prospect so send them your best wishes.

They are currently in talks with a breeder and have high hopes. If that doesn't work they will continue looking because they want the right fit for our Sheltie pack. Hopefully we will have some news soon about my new brother or sister.

Mom is doing her research on puppy raising and is excited to get started. I think I'll be more excited once I meet this new creature who will be entering my Sheltie space.

Happy 5th Gotcha Day Annie!!!

It has been a some what noisy summer as Mom and Dad have been getting repairs done on the house. Katy and I are sharing a new deck as this year's gotcha present. I must say we weren't thrilled with the idea of a new deck. The old deck was special. It was here even before Bailey. Dog Dad said that was the point. It had been here a very long time and it needed to be replaced. We had our doubts. A whole week of having no freedom to come and go on our own was rather stressful.

Also with all these crazy tropical storms and then threats of tornadoes we haven't really had the chance to experience being out on the deck. It has merely been a means of exiting and entering the house. We are hoping as the fall weather comes we will come to appreciate the new deck as much as the old.

Mom says it is hard to believe it is 5 years since she and Dog Dad returned from their Maine vacation with Katy and then went to CT to go and bring me home. I'm not sure how they got along without me. I take very good care of all of them. After all who would have been Dog Dad's office Dog during COVID? Katy is certainly not office dog material.

We aren't around as much anymore. We have kept reading and following our friend's blogs. It is good to know others are still out there blogging. Mom has focused more on her craft stuff but she is still interested in the pet world.

When Thread Attacks....

Now Mom often accuses Katy and I of attacking her craft supplies. There are some fiberfill incidents best left not discussed without our attornies present. However, I'd like to present evidence that sometimes the craft supplies attack us.

Case in point here I am on the floor sleeping peacefully while Mom works on her crochet Barbie doll outfits and wham crochet thread hits the floor. Do I attack it, harm it? Clearly no. I leave it alone.

Is that enough for this aggressive thread? No it clearly attacks me. When I attempt to peacefully calm it by sniffing and licking Mom tells me to leave it alone and removes it.

Happy 6th Birthday Annie

Hi all it's me Annie here to share with you my 6th birthday. We've been away for a while and still not sure how regular we will be back but Mom didn't want to miss a chance to connect and what better occasion than of course my birthday.

Katy and I are both grateful that Dog Dad was able to score us some birthday cookies when he went to refresh our food supply. He wasn't sure they'd have them but we were pleasantly surprised to find they were still making them!!

Mom is still struggling with the idea that I've turned six. She knows the math is right but it doesn't seem possible that the time has flown so fast.

Annie doing her part to spread the seeds

Mom and Dog Dad would very much like to know where this plant hides. I won't tell them because I'm doing very important work spreading seeds. Mom keeps telling me that when she brushes me out and the seeds end up in the trash it isn't helping the plant at all, but I know what the plant tells me when it begs me to come over and rub up to it. It needs my help.

Happy 2nd Gotcha Day Annie!!!

We seem to drop off the map in the summer but we weren't going to miss Annie's gotcha day again like Mom did last year. You have been such a blessing dear Baby Girl. We can't how lonely we would be if you hadn't come into our lives when you did. Every day you remind us just how blessed we are to have you.

Hanging in the Snow Bank

Annie has been very curious about the snow banks this Spring. Mom thankfully missed the shot of Annie rolling into the bushes and me, Katy, standing there panicked thinking she was eaten by the bush. Mom just laughed and called her and she bounced out like nothing was wrong. The girl is nuts, but she does love hanging out in the snow.

Tell Her Nothing

We watch all those cops shows. You have the right to remain silent. She's got nothing on you. Don't confess.

Birthday Treats

Doggie bakery cookies have become a tradition in our house to celebrate special occasions. Annie is still getting used to the tradition. Katy knows that these cookies come on special days and will sit and wait for them to appear. Annie still has that wow what happened when they come out.

Annie has different tastes than the other two Shelties and we've struggled to find the right match in toys. She isn't much interested in balls or throwing toys. They seem to scare her a bit. Her favorite toy seems to be a trash bag or other bag being shaken out before being placed in a trash can. (Don't ask we have no idea why. She just enjoys attacking it.) We stumbled upon Nyla Bones as an option. However, Annie is particular about what kind. She loves the round ones, but won't even look at the ones shaped like bones. While looking for birthday toys I stumbled upon the teething rings and wondered how Annie would do with those. Let's just say one key is almost gone this morning. It clearly was a hit. Lucky for Annie, Katy has no interest in Nyla, so there is no competition for her toys. Katy will sniff them and then realizing they aren't "real" bones she wanders off.

Happy 3rd Birthday Annie

Katy here. Do to computer issues and Mom just not getting organized we've been away for a while. Mom is still working on getting all the new computer stuff worked out, but there was no way we weren't going to post a celebration of Annie's first birthday with us.

Annie's nickname is Little Bit as she is the smallest of all the three Shelties who have lived with Mom and Dad and she will answer to her name and her nick name. I prefer my Princess Katy title. I wasn't sure what having another girl in the house was going to be like, but Annie has grown on me. She's a great snuggler and she doesn't steal my toys. It has been helpful having someone else to watch over Mom and Dad. She can even tolerate sleepig in bed with them. That's something neither Bailey or I could ever do.

We have many more stories to share. Mom is still working out her challenges with loading pictures to the computer, but she's getting there.

Happy Birthday Annie. Don't be surprised if Mom goes over the top a bit. Birthdays are a big deal for her.

Still here

Hi everyone. We are still around and things are going well, we've just been crazy busy. We've been reading blogs, but just haven't been able to get to Blogging. However, for the first time in years we managed to sign up for the Christmas Card exchange just before our reminder from Lassiter, Chase, and Benjamin who never forget to remind us, so we don't miss out on one of our favorite Blogville activities. Thanks guys!!!

Mom and Dad updated phones and computers and Mom is still adjusting to working with the new tech. She misses some of the old features which seemed to be a bit easier for down and uploading pictures. Dog Dad is much faster adapting to new tech.

This has been a busy summer and fall. Katy had her first dog vacation. Annie came to live with us and has been having an awesome time making her place in the family. Mom and Dog Dad had two weddings to attend and there always seems to be something going on.

For those of you who might be worried we haven't been writing about Annie because things haven't been going well with her, rest easy. Annie is everything we could possibly have wanted. While the breeder felt Annie was too shy for show, she is a bold and brave as we could possibly have wanted. Where Katy is shy and reserved Annie boldly steps forward, as Bailey always did shielding Katy from too much stranger attention. She is funny, loving, mischievous, and has been incredibly successful in drawing Katy out of her grieving. She has been everything we wanted and more.

While Katy has always been something of an introvert, what we feared would happen when Bailey died did, she withdrew into herself when he died. It has taken all of Annie's energy and determination, but she has Katy playing, running, and becoming more like the dog she was before Bailey got sick. Katy has also developed a protective streak towards Annie She does her best to keep her out of trouble and that is quite a bit of work.

Annie has reintroduced toys to Katy who gave them up when Bailey died. Annie is constantly pulling toys out of the toy chest to explore. She loves to play and in the last month I've noticed Katy returning to some of her old favorites. I even saw her steal Annie's favorite Platypus the other day. Stealing toys from each other was something she and Bailey did all the time. This was the first time Katy had taken the initiative with Annie.

Meet the Newest Member of Sheltie Times

Katy here to announce I have a new sister, Annie. Her breeder named her Katie, but clearly that wasn't going to work. Mom and Dad worked up a list of names that ended in an long "e" sound and finally settled on Annie. We took a two hour trip to visit her and I was frustrated that she didn't come home with us. Mom thought I might be jealous because she got lots of Dog Dad's attention, but instead, I laid down in front of her pushing her closer to Dog Dad. I was sure this would mean we'd take her home with us that day, but Mom said it was more complicated than that. First Annie, had to heal from her spaying surgery. Then we went to Maine. However, soon after that her breeder brought her to Mom and Dad. I couldn't be at that meeting because I had a spa appointment. I will say I looked good when we met.

With the help of the New England Sheltie breeder informal network we found the newest member of our pack. Annie, formally Katie, is a 2 year old sable Sheltie. After several conversations with her breeder we met her on August 14th and fell instantly in love. She was still recovering from her spay and we were headed to Maine so we spoke to the breeder about a date that would work for bringing home our new girl. We had to work around our vacation and the breeder's schedule, but it all worked out and Annie came home August 27th.

I'm teaching Annie lots of new stuff. Just like Bailey helped me, I've been teaching her about stairs. I've also been teaching her the basics of bunny flushing and dog snuggling. She loves to zoomie and she might be even faster than I am. She is incredibly curious about everything. She's sniffed almost every square inch of the back yard. I though I was thorough, but she sniffs even more than I do.

We are all settling in, but are sure to have stories to share soon.
