Bailey and Katy came to us as rescues. We lost Bailey in June of 2016 and Katy in November of 2022. We were blessed to have Annie join us in August of 2016. They have brought great love and joy to our immediate family and to extended family and friends. This blog will share their stories and issues related to Shelties. Some told from their perspective and others told from those that share this journey with them. Notice: This blog does have Amazon product links and Google Adsense

March Came in With the Snow
The snow started yesterday and we have much more of it than you can see in these pictures. Mom just hasn't updated. We were starting to enjoy the little flowers poking up in the ground and now we are getting winter. Mom says its all about the joys of living in New England. We have no idea what that is supposed to mean other than we get snow at Halloween and in March.

Happy Blogaversary!!!
Mom checked the postings and realized today makes one year since our blog started. We made her double check because we really could not believe it had been a year since it started. She put the date on her phone calendar to remind her to post today.
Of course, we had no idea she would make us wear hats. I guess we are lucky she forgot about the party hats in the bedroom left over from New Years.
We have met so many other dogs since we started and learned so much. Mom searched, but she could not find out who suggested the muffin tin for a food dish. However, without the blogging community, Katy would be tinless.
We loved getting all the Christmas cards this year and look forward to another Christmas card exchange next year, too.
Thank you to all our blogging friends who have supported, encouraged, and helped us through this year. We truly appreciate your kindness, thoughtfulness, and generous spirit.
Now Mom where are those anniversary snacks?

Katy's New Food Bowl
Mom was reading another Dog Blog; she cannot remember which one, about dogs that eat too fast. The writer was talking about solutions to the problem. The writer suggested muffin tins, so Dad got me a new dog bowl and it is the coolest thing ever. It is like getting a puzzle toy at dinner.
Mom and Dad are surprised because they were not sure I would like my new dinner bowl. It is the coolest thing ever. I have to work through the 12 compartments to find my food. Bailey is so jealous. You should have seen his sad little face when he saw he did not get one. Mom and Dad think he eats slowly already. However, I gulp my food down in less than a minute and it does have this way of giving me tummy problems. I still eat fast, but it is a bit more work to get the food out of these little compartments.
Mom wants you to know we are celebrating our one-year blogaversary this week. She looked at the calendar last week and was surprised to find that we have been at this for a year. Who would have believed it!

Got Snow?
We were very surprised to find we were getting snow cookies specially delivered from the skies this morning.
What we could not understand is why Mama made us wait at the door after we had our fill.
After Mom dried us off, she was trying to get the screen slider shut. Katy thought she might need a few more cookies and darted out the door.
After all snow cookies have been a rare occurrence this year.

Happy Valentine's Day
Happy Valentine's Day everyone. Mama has been very busy lately and hasn't been posting as frequently. We are off today playing with our toys. Katy has become very attached to the Valentine's toys. Mama is worried because she's seen nothing for St. Patrick's Day and Easter is far off on the horizon. Perhaps these toys will have to remain until the Easter replacements can be found.
Dad gave us bully sticks to celebrate the day. There is no better way to start a holiday than with a good chew.

We're Back
We realize we left you with a cliffhanger regarding the snowman incident. Mama got over it and all is well. However, she has been busy with stuff lately and we have not gotten back to blogging in a while. We did not want anyone to worry.
Katy finally met someone more afraid of her than she was of him and he admitted he now has met two dogs he actually likes. He had met Bailey before Katy came and was surprised to find he was not afraid of him. When he found there was an addition since his previous visit, he was a bit nervous. However, he pronounced her a true lady and she won him over. She was intrigued that someone was not trying to make friends and spend time with her, so she overcame her natural inclination to avoid strangers.
It carried over to the Super Bowl game where she impatiently waited for the snack she has come to expect at half time from a frequent football guest. I am not sure who is more distressed that the season has ended. Those half time cookies were very popular around here.
Yes, the Patriots lost and Bailey took it hard. Katy was only upset that everyone else was so upset. She really does not take sides in these issues.

Mistaken Toy Identity
Really Mom we have no idea how he got off the book shelf. We thought he must be ours when he was on the floor. There was no malice intended.
OK we need a good dog lawyer to press our case. Any takers?

We love holiday toys.

Snow Again
Not that we should be surprised, but it snowed again. It seems winter has finally remembered New England. We are enjoying snow cookies again. However, we are not sure how long they will last.

Our Stories are Back: The Big Over Easy
Mama has brought back our morning story hour. Over Christmas, she heard about a mystery series based on nursery characters for adults written by Jasper Fforde. We are listening to the first one The Big Over Easy: A Nursery Crime
Mama has a thing about the Humpty murder case. She used to make her students try to decide who murdered Humpty as part of a class exercise on traditional literature, so she is enjoying this story.
She is finding it funny how they are mixing Grimm's, nursery rhymes, and mythology all in one book.
Katy has been disappointed that there is little romance in the novel. Bailey was looking for more action. However, Mama loves the combination of mystery and fairytale characters. We will update more when we finish listening to the story.

After a long wait it appears we have snow cookies. According to Dad the rain will remove them before long, but Mom insisted on getting some shots of us enjoying the snow while it lasted.

Where is the Snow?
No, we are not trying to jinx ourselves by asking that question. We had a crazy Halloween storm that socked us hard and then nothing. However, this was our yard last year. We had a single path all winter to play in and we are afraid if the snow comes, it will come all at once again and not spread itself out so we can have a few snow cookies, make a few snow dog angels, and let it melt before the next storm hits. We would prefer not to have the snow corridor that hit last year and lasted until mid-spring.

The Tree is Gone and It is Time to Move On
Dad and Mom finally got the tree down this weekend and the Christmas decorations are making their slow journey to that other world know as the attic. They will be coming for our Christmas toys soon and we have been actively seeking hiding places all over the house. Mom discovered Santa's spot this morning, but still allowed us to continue playing with him as she said that is one of the last boxes that go into the attic.
Mom says she spotted some Valentine's Toys at Petco. She has talked Dad into a trip tomorrow. She is hoping to find the plush doggy version of the candy hearts she remembers getting as a child. She is also kind of hoping the local store has the pink elephants she saw online. Knowing Mom she will come home with the cupid frog or one of the Valentine's Flatties. So far, she has not located any talking toys. Just as well, since Bailey has not stopped playing Jingle Bells since he realized the Christmas Toy's days are numbered. We suspect we may even get our Valentine's toys early to keep us from missing our Christmas toys.

Mama made us a blanket
We are not sure what to think of our blanket. We do not tend to embrace change, but it is soft. After all we are the king and queen of fleece, can we embrace yarn?
Mama started a couple of experiments a while back and then stopped when they were not headed in the direction she wanted. She was considering pulling them out, but I have been trying to sit on and snuggle on the cat afghan she is making for a family member. I must say while I objected to her not making a dog afghan, the cats are remarkably comfortable and I cannot begin to see why I cannot use it while she is working on it.
Ok so I have a tendency to claw and chew a bit and this yarn is more delicate than the yarn she used for my blanket. I am resisting not getting to choose my own blanket. I think the cat one would suit me.

Be Careful What You Wish For
We were moping around the house because Dad had gone back to work. We really enjoyed Christmas vacation. It was wonderful having Dad home all day. It was hard seeing him get in the car and go back to work. You can understand why we might hope he would come back. Well be careful what you work for fellow pups. Dad got a nasty stomach bug and we had to nurse him back to health yesterday. He is better today, but we pushed him out the door today. As much as we love having him home, that is not what we were wishing for when we hoped to have Dad home.

We Won the Placemat from the From Daschies With Moxie & Pet Blogs United Contest
We waited to post this until we hoped more people would be back reading after the holiday break. We won a placemat with our pictures on it during the Pet Blogs United Holiday Contest from Dachsies with Moxie.
We resisted having our picture taken for this project having no idea what Mom intended to do with the picture. However, we really liked the mat when it arrived. We also appreciated all the comments of the relatives that visited over Christmas. The Dachsies have one amazingly talented Mom. She has an Etsy shop if any of you are interested in ordering your own quilted pieces.

Grandma Continues to be the Best Gift Giver
Grandma arrived on Christmas Eve with the most interesting contraption. It was a plastic container. Mom said it looked like one of those fancy serving dishes. The plate was a Frisbee and on it where soft squeaky food toys. Katy and I were very impatient as Dad and Mom worked to open the package and release our toys. We were very disappointed when Dad said not only could we not go outside to play with the Frisbee right then, but we couldn't play with it in the house either. However, the potato and the roll have become our favorites. The potato has this fleece on the top that Katy loves. I am not sure where her fleece obsession comes from, but it has not subsided since her visit with Santa.
We hope all of you had a wonderful and happy Christmas. Katy and I have been very tired. We have had constant visitors and have not had a moment to blog. We will be catching up with everyone next week.

Our Christmas Hide Out
We mentioned one of our favorite things about Christmas is it gives us a new hiding spot. Mom decided to take pictures of us in our Christmas digs before the crowds arrive. Katy was not pleased. She has a strong belief about privacy, but felt better after Christmas cookies were provided.

Second Christmas Card Wreath Almost Filled
We are so thrilled that so many people sent us cards this year. We even got our own card and doggie bakery cookies from a crochet swap Mom was involved in this month. We got to share a ginger bread man last night. These cookies were huge. Mom had a swap partner with three shelties!
Santa preparations continue. Both Grandmas will be in the state today. Daddy's Mom arrived Sunday. Mom's will be here today. Neither stays here, but they will both be here on Christmas Eve. One always has treats in her pocket because she has a dog. The other brings the most amazing toys on Christmas Eve. We cannot wait to see what she brings us this year.

Santa is so Awesome
We do not have our Santa pictures to post yet. Mama says they will be picked up later and emailed to us for additional copies. It turns out there was a professional photographer there after all.
While I have visited Santa many times, this was only the second time Katy has visited Santa. She was so scared, but one of Santa's helpers came out to meet Katy while Santa was on a break. He fed us liver snacks and he actually got Katy to let him pet her!!. Katy said he smelled a good deal like Santa when Santa came out in his red suit. She loved Santa's fur and his soft suit. While she was scared at first when she felt that suit, she melted. Who knew all it took was a beard, soft coat, and liver treats to win her heart. Mama is hoping the photographer got the shot where Katy was whispering in Santa's ear. It was the cutest thing ever.
Now Katy and I just have to hold it together with all the temptations on Christmas Eve. Mama's big Christmas celebration is Christmas Eve. With all those people in the house, you can only image the temptations to beg and get into mischief. We are hoping Santa fills our stockings with treats and toys.

Visit with Santa Tomorrow
We are off to see Santa tomorrow and contribute to the local Labrador Rescue as part of our outing. Mama has been much more serious with this whole naughty and nice thing so we have much to discuss with Santa. Dad and Mom said they were off to discuss things with Santa last weekend and came home smelling like bully sticks, so perhaps that means we are on Santa's good list.
Mama has mentioned something about singing dogs, I do not think she is talking about us as Katy and I have curtailed our barking since that snowman fountain keeps going off every time we bark.
Frankie thinks he is being terrorized. This thing starts up every time we bark! Mom finds it very amusing.
Our second card wreath is filling quickly although Mom is spreading the card out more than in the first one, as Christmas gets closer. She does not think it will be as full as the first.
We have received cards from:
Chewy Deravi, Bella and Daisy, Bert King, Miley and Maggie, and Dakota & Cody, Frankie Furter, Freedom, Casper & Nikki, Maggie Mae and Max, Sweet William The Scot, Finn, Urban Hounds, Julep & Derby, Remington, Max, Bugsy and Knuckles, Reggie and Lola Baker, and Douglas, Oskar Hoerauf, Brandon, Tessa the Maltese, Erika, Blair, Koda, Sophie, Indy & Jack, Minnie and Mack, Harley, Gibson, Wolf, Chloe & Bandit, Bailey & Nala, and Jacque and Pippen.

The Snowmen Invasion
Frankie has been blogging about the snowmen invasion at his house and we wanted him to know he is not alone.
We have not seen snow since Halloween, but that has not stopped Mama from bringing the snow creatures indoors and decorating the house with them. We even have snowmen toys. Grandma bought us more for Christmas last year. Mama finds this all very amusing.
We do find snowmen tug-o-war to be a good work out and we are glad Mom found our Christmas toys. It seems to amuse Mom. You can tell from all those spy camera shots she keeps snapping with that phone of hers.
We are missing our holiday snow cookies with the lack of snow this holiday season. Mama promises us there will be plenty of snow cookies all winter to make up for the ones we missed at Christmas.
Our second Christmas wreath continues to fill up with cards.
We have received cards from:
Chewy Deravi, Bella and Daisy, Bert King, Miley and Maggie, and Dakota & Cody, Frankie Furter, Freedom, Casper & Nikki, Maggie Mae and Max, Sweet William The Scot, Finn, Urban Hounds, Julep & Derby, Remington, Max, Bugsy and Knuckles, Reggie and Lola Baker, and Douglas, Oskar Hoerauf, Brandon, Tessa the Maltese, Erika, Blair, Koda, Sophie, Indy & Jack, Minnie and Mack, Harley, Gibson, Wolf, Chloe & Bandit.

Christmas Toys
Mom has this thing about rotating our holiday toys. Tyler the turkey was retired until next year, but then this magical thing happened this box of toys emerged we had forgotten about. You see not only do Santa, Mom and Dad buy us toys at Christmas, but we have a Grandma and an Aunt who also buy some of the coolest toys to play with, some that only make an appearance at Christmas. Mom tried to collect our toys to take a picture this morning, but we protested thinking she was going to box our toys again and she used that spy phone on her camera to catch us in action. She has not mastered the focus, but we still are not sure, when she is taking pictures and when she is texting Dad, so we cannot always be on alert to avoid the pictures.
After Mom took the time to gather our toys together, it seemed like a great chance to nap with friends.
The Christmas cards keep coming in and Mom has officially started on her second wreath. We have received cards from: Chewy Deravi, Bella and Daisy, Bert King, Miley and Maggie, and Dakota & Cody, Frankie Furter, Freedom, Casper & Nikki, Maggie Mae and Max, Sweet William The Scot, Finn, Urban Hounds, Julep & Derby, Remington, Max, Bugsy and Knuckles, Reggie and Lola Baker, and Douglas, Oskar Hoerauf, Brandon, Tessa the Maltese, and Erika, Blair, Koda, Sophie, Indy & Jack.

Card Wreath
Mom has been decorating with our cards and decided to experiment with her new phone camera. Papa is truly the Paparazi in our family, but with her new phone Mama is trying to come out of her shell. She decided to try something simple.
We received more cards over the weekend. We have received cards from:
Chewy Deravi, Bella and Daisy, Bert King, Miley and Maggie, and Dakota & Cody, Frankie Furter, Freedom, Casper & Nikki, Maggie Mae and Max, Sweet William The Scot, Finn, Urban Hounds, Julep & Derby, Remington, Max, Bugsy and Knuckles, Reggie and Lola Baker, and Douglas.

Mom Finished the Tree Skirt
Well Mom finally finished the tree skirt. This picture not only shows the tree skirt, but also my hiding spot I have with my couch now behind the tree. Mom has a point it is rather a unique hiding spot only available at Christmas. When I sit on my couch nobody can see me, but I have a great view of everyone in the room.
We received more cards yesterday. We have received cards from:
Chewy Deravi, Bella and Daisy, Bert King, Miley and Maggie, and Dakota & Cody, Frankie Furter, Freedom, Casper & Nikki, Maggie Mae and Max, Sweet William The Scot, Finn, Urban Hounds, Julep & Derby, and Remington.

Visit to Santa Paws
This was our visit to Santa Paws last year. It was Katy's first trip ever. We must have been good because he filled our stockings with toys and treats that Mom was still giving out to us months later.
We are having a late visit with Santa this year. Mom says that with the busy holiday schedule Santa cannot fit us in until December 17 when Santa is taking pictures to raise funds for the local Labrador Rescue. We have several Lab friends so we think that Lab rescue is a wonderful idea. If getting our picture taken with Santa can help, we are happy to do our part.
Mom almost has the tree skirt finished so the decorating should begin soon.
