Bailey and Katy came to us as rescues. We lost Bailey in June of 2016 and Katy in November of 2022. We were blessed to have Annie join us in August of 2016. They have brought great love and joy to our immediate family and to extended family and friends. This blog will share their stories and issues related to Shelties. Some told from their perspective and others told from those that share this journey with them. Notice: This blog does have Amazon product links and Google Adsense

Thankful Thursday: Bunnnies Stayed in Front Yard
Mom is grateful these bunnies stayed in front yard where we aren't allowed as it isn't fenced. Therefore she doesn't have to worry about the safety of the bunnies.

Thankful Thursday: Bunny is grateful we are oblivous
Dog Dad caught these pictures of us. Do you see the bunny boldly eating clover in the back? We didn't. Yes, we are embarrassed. We missed the critter right behind us as we were watching dog Dad.

Treat Ball Birthday Party
While we snuggle with our stuffies, we don't play too much with our toys, except our treat balls. So Dog Dad and Mom instead of buying new toys have resorted to treat ball parties for special occasions. As you can see Mom and Dad hunted down our treat balls and prepped them before the party began.
It was every girl for herself.
Much later after dinner, we finished off the day with birthday cookies.

Look Who Is Back?
Mom isn't thrilled. The snake was enjoying a rock sun bath and wasn't about to move. We also failed to notice it was there adding to her anxiety. Honestly we can't be on duty all the time. Even we need breaks. OK so we did literally walk right by it without noticing, but the world isn't perfect.

Happy 10th Birthday Katy!
Happy Birthday my sweet girl. I have no idea how you could possibly be 10 years old. You have the energy of a puppy. We are so proud of you baby girl. Since you lost Bailey you have worked so hard at becoming more confident and able to deal with things on your own. While you might have a tendency to want things your own way, you also take care of Annie and make sure she knows she's loved and cared for every day. She couldn't have asked for a better friend to start her new life with in a new home.

Remembering Bailey
It's hard to believe it's been 2 years already, but time does fly. We haven't forgotten you baby boy. I do find it funny that even though Annie is so much smaller than you, people who haven't seen us in a while just remember us having one light and one dark Sheltie and are shocked to realize Annie has been with us for almost 2 years now.
We were truly blessed that of all the people who could have adopted an adorable rare Sheltie puppy to be available in rescue somehow you found us. I will never stop being grateful for that. You brought such joy and kindness where ever you went. Sadly, I think you might have missed your calling as a therapy dog. You had all the natural instincts that just can't be taught.
Enjoy your freedom over the Rainbow Bridge dear boy. You have earned your wings.

Critter Clearing
With all the rainy weekends keeping Mom and Dad from getting out to garden the perennial gardens are becoming critter vacation spots. I have taken on the job of evicting out unwanted guests.

Thankful Thursday: Dad Keeps Filling in my Hole
I am thankful that while Dog Dad isn't thrilled about the hole he appreciates the fact I keep it to one spot and understands I need to cool down on a hot day. So he keeps filling in my hole so I can keep digging it out to find the cool dirt underneath. It's a good system. He gets to pretend he's solving the hole problem and I get a fresh supply of cool dirt.

The Eyes Have It
Mom says we have very strong stares when we want something. We keep trying to tell her we are just very attentive to her needs.

Rallying for a Red Sox Win
As you might have guessed we are big sports fans in this family. Thanks to Mom's Aunt and our grandma we have sports fleece for all almost all our favorite sports teams. Contrary to what Dog Dad says sometimes we can even share. Here we are clearly sharing the Red Sox fleece as we cheer them on to victory over the Tigers.

Thankful Thursday: Garter Snakes are Afraid of Dogs
Mom is terrified of snakes. Don't try telling her garter snakes are harmless, good for the environment, it doesn't help. She will tell you breathing is healthy and she finds it hard to do when she she's a snake. She can manage her fears when they are behind glass or caged in some way but when they are free or someone is holding one all bets are off.
Thankfully, for Mom garter snakes don't like being herded and will generally flee when a Sheltie starts to investigate. This one dived for cover when I, Katy, went to rescue Mom. Of course now Mom is once again paranoid about snakes living under the porch, but at least it isn't sun bathing by the bottom of the stairs. I can only do so much. Not that this makes the Mom feel better, but this is one of the bigger snakes we've seen in the last few years.
