Bailey and Katy came to us as rescues. We lost Bailey in June of 2016 and Katy in November of 2022. We were blessed to have Annie join us in August of 2016. They have brought great love and joy to our immediate family and to extended family and friends. This blog will share their stories and issues related to Shelties. Some told from their perspective and others told from those that share this journey with them. Notice: This blog does have Amazon product links and Google Adsense

Chatting Through the Fence
We like to keep up with Freddy next door. We find a brisk jog up and down the fence as we bark keeps us all entertained as we catch up on the latest news.

Ice Puddles
We went out on Wednesday for our morning yard cleaning and Mom was fascinated with these frozen puddles she discovered. Our snow has disappeared, but we are still chewing on the ice.

Tell Her Nothing
We watch all those cops shows. You have the right to remain silent. She's got nothing on you. Don't confess.

Wordy Wednesday: Snow Dancing
Mom was fascinated with how the snow was dancing in the air on Monday of the long weekend. She couldn't quite get the pictures she wanted of the snow dancing in the air never quite wanting to touch the ground, but she did seem to take joy in catching pictures of how it landed on us.

Snow Cooling
A little over a week ago we had a warm up into the high 50's and the snow pile started to melt. While the warmer weather pleased Mom we wanted to cool ourselves in the remaining snow and Mom felt she needed to capture our snow relaxation.

Monday Mischief: Mom's New Bed
Dog Dad and Mom decided to get a new bed before Christmas and I just love it. Lots of good support and well it's just comfy. It has an added benefit that Annie doesn't like to jump up on anything. The only time I'm bothered by Annie when I'm up here is when Mom and Dad carry her up here.

Katy's Christmas Cave
Mom warned you they'd be flashbacks as she processed all the Christmas pictures.
Katy loves people, but like many people she finds crowds to be a bit overwhelming. One of her favorite holiday traditions is the long table clothes because they make a great cave or as Katy likes to think of it a wonderful Sheltie retreat. She can see and hear everything that's going on, but she's away from it and has more of a choice when to interact with it all. It took several tries for Mom to get this picture, which makes sense. Who wants to be bothered in your retreat?

Thankful Thursday: At least I get the edge
The bed wars are continuing with neither willing to give in and surrender property. Annie clearly has poached Katy's bed, but Katy being the loving big sister is merely reminding Annie that she has to share and let Katy at least get to use the edge of her own bed. You can clearly see Annie is taking up far more space than she needs so Katy decides to take action.

Who needs Stockings?
All the treat balls were left by the chimney with care in hopes that St. Nicholas soon would be there. Mom talked to us before we went to see Santa this year about what we wanted for Christmas. While Bailey was big into all kinds of toys, we mostly use our toys for pillows and Annie will occassionally gnaw on a Nylabone, but she has plenty. What could Santa bring us that wouldn't be a waste? Well what Mom realized is we do play with our treat balls. Even when they aren't full we will roll them around the house, bat them into walls and generally have a good time with them.
Santa searched but could only find one type of treat ball we didn't already have. The elves have been busy making toys so he has been doing his dog shopping online. However, in consultation with Mom he did offer to fill our treat balls instead of stockings this year and when we woke up on Christmas morning every treat toy in the house was filled with treats. We had a wild Christmas morning that continued through the week as some of these treat balls are more challenging then others.

Monday Mischief: The Bed Wars
That blue rectangular mat Annie is laying on is Katy's bed. It is the only bed she uses in the entire house. The look you see on this face is patience, tolerance and love, but big sisters evenutally do teach little sisters lessons.
Annie loves to do anything to get Katy to notice her, pay attention to her, play with her. For the most part Katy is a good big sister, gentle and caring. However, every so often big sister fights back. This was Bailey's bed. He actually won it in a contest at a shelter fundraiser and he and Katy would sometimes share it. When he passed Katy would lay next to it, but she wanted nothing to do with sleeping in it. She has a small egg crate mat with a sports fleece covering that lies right in front of a heat vent. In order to vex her Annie has been stealing her spot. Until recently Katy has never retaliated.
I came in the room one day to find Katy has reclaimed the right to use all beds. Annie is not sure she likes what she has set in motion.

Snow
You might have heard we had a bit of a snow storm a week ago Thursday. A foot of snow cookies was dumped into our back yard. We would have been delighted but then the temperatures dropped into single digits so it became too cold to enjoy our regular snow activities. It also kept Mom inside and refusing to go outside for pictures until it got above single digits. However, she did eventually get outside and take some pictures.
We do enjoy the snow track that Dog Dad makes for us. When the weather is bad it is nice not to have to make our own. However we do like exploring the rest of the yard as the weather allows it.
Have you ever noticed door service is slower on cold day?
Warm and comfy inside. Hey what are you doing in my bed? More on that on Monday.

Thankful Thursday: The Christmas Card Wreaths 2017
Mom didn't actually get a picture of the filled second Christmas wreath until after Christmas. She actually got a few cards after Christmas and since the wreath was still up they were added to the wreath and displayed until the decorations came down last weekend. A big thanks to all of you who sent cards this year. It really is a mood booster to see the cards come in and it also is a conversation starter during the Christmas Eve party. Everyone always mentions the wreaths.

Happy New Year 2018
Happy New Year everyone. We hope you all had a wonderful holiday break. We are slowly getting back from ours which was extended with cold weather and Mom's slow return to writing again. So, expect some flashback posts as we delve into what you've missed while we've been gone. Mom likes to go back and reread our entries so she finds even updating the old stuff is worth doing.
We held our yearly New Years eve game night with one of our favorite dog friendly family members. Dog Dad struggled to get us into our hats for our yearly New Years pictures.
The best thing are the New Years treats. At midnight when everyone toasts we get a dog treat to start the New Year right.
As for New Years resolutions.
Play in the snow
Eat lots of snow
Don't get caught when we cause trouble
Get lots of treats
Limit Vet visits by staying healthy
That seems like a good starter list for us.
