Bailey and Katy came to us as rescues. We lost Bailey in June of 2016 and Katy in November of 2022. We were blessed to have Annie join us in August of 2016. They have brought great love and joy to our immediate family and to extended family and friends. This blog will share their stories and issues related to Shelties. Some told from their perspective and others told from those that share this journey with them. Notice: This blog does have Amazon product links and Google Adsense

Who needs Stockings?
All the treat balls were left by the chimney with care in hopes that St. Nicholas soon would be there. Mom talked to us before we went to see Santa this year about what we wanted for Christmas. While Bailey was big into all kinds of toys, we mostly use our toys for pillows and Annie will occassionally gnaw on a Nylabone, but she has plenty. What could Santa bring us that wouldn't be a waste? Well what Mom realized is we do play with our treat balls. Even when they aren't full we will roll them around the house, bat them into walls and generally have a good time with them.
Santa searched but could only find one type of treat ball we didn't already have. The elves have been busy making toys so he has been doing his dog shopping online. However, in consultation with Mom he did offer to fill our treat balls instead of stockings this year and when we woke up on Christmas morning every treat toy in the house was filled with treats. We had a wild Christmas morning that continued through the week as some of these treat balls are more challenging then others.

Wow, you have a lot of treat toys. We only have molecule balls. I'll have to consider buying more treat ball toys. That was a great idea to have Santa fill them.
ReplyDeleteKaty stopped playing with ANY toys when we lost Bailey. We were on a dog vacation and she took interest in 2 treat ball toys a clerk at a dog store showed us and DH and I jumped on them regardless of the mark up. Just to see her play was worth every penny. She chased those balls all over the hotel room even when they were empty.
DeleteWhen we got home and since we've had Annie I keep searching and when I find a new one I pick it up and they love figuring out how they work. I've tried the stationary puzzles and they prefer the balls they can bat around and they play with them long after the treats are gone.
What a great Christmas! I love that idea of filling all the treat toys up & having some fun. You're right, who needs stockings?

That sounds like a really fun Christmas! We only get the treat balls under supervision as we argue over them and Arran steals them all. I don't think we met Annie yet. Sorry for our prolonged absence.

Eggplant!!!!! What do you think of the carrot? We almost got one of those, too.
ReplyDeleteCammie!
Annie in particular loves the carrot. She is convinced between her nose and her tongue, she can get the treats out. Of the veggies, Katy prefers the Eggplant. She bats it around making treats come out. What surprises me is that Annie doesn't pick the carrot up and dump out the treats.
DeleteI almost didn't get the veggies because they weren't Kong fans. However, once they get warmed up with the treat balls they will empty anything. I have to see what other veggies we can find for their collection.
That sounds like a lot of fun!
