Bailey and Katy came to us as rescues. We lost Bailey in June of 2016 and Katy in November of 2022. We were blessed to have Annie join us in August of 2016. They have brought great love and joy to our immediate family and to extended family and friends. This blog will share their stories and issues related to Shelties. Some told from their perspective and others told from those that share this journey with them. Notice: This blog does have Amazon product links and Google Adsense

Protecting the Compost
Mom has been composting since long before she knew it had a name. She doesn't have the land she had when she was a kid, so now she has a container to keep it in.
We not only protect the compost from intruders, but we provide escort service for Mom to and from the composter. See, Mom is cool with the composting, but she's not so crazy about the bugs inside the composter. She also likes company when its dark and its time to empty the storage bags she keeps in the kitchen. Who is she kidding she likes company when it is bright daylight. The Mom just doesn't like traveling alone. So, being good dogs we head out with her.
As you can see, it is nice and shady back here. So, of all the chores we have, watching over the compost isn't the worst. It is shady, the larger animals haven't figured out how to break in, so others than using it as a landing point from the trees, we have limited need to clear them from the area. Just don't tell Mom or she'll be thinking of tougher jobs for us.

ReplyDeleteMom misses her compost tumbler....it was so easy to use and didn't require her turning it over.....you just rolled the barrel.
ReplyDeleteMom would love a tumbler, too. Dog Dad hasn't seen one locally and isn't crazy about trying to find one online. So we toss and turn.
ReplyDeleteWe have a compost tumbler but I'm actually not sure if my husband remembers to use it!

Thank you for joining the blog hop!!
ReplyDeleteI would not like the bugs either! ICK I would be so happy in a bug free world. Although I'm sure someone would tell me how it would destroy the Ecosystem. :-) So bug free as long as the Ecosystem stays in place.
We have a compost pile at home, but it is mostly leaves, and branches and yard stuff. It is in the far corner of the property and just fenced off, so it does not attract the bugs like yours does.
I'm sure mom is very grateful to have you with her.
great guarding job. We are not that into bugs here either but ar emuch more bothered by rats, ugh! Nothing is worse then seeing a city rat running down the street while your dog wants to chase it. We do also hate ticks

ReplyDeleteY'all look like excellent guardians of the compost! We live in an apartment, so we don't have a compost pile, but Barley LOVES accompanying her grandparents to their compost pile to see what kinds of critters are snacking on it!
ReplyDeletecomposting is an alien concept to us apartment dwellers! :P But glad you have fun with it :P
ReplyDeleteWhat a good companion you are Bailey, and what a good Mama you have that she composts!!
