Bailey and Katy came to us as rescues. We lost Bailey in June of 2016 and Katy in November of 2022. We were blessed to have Annie join us in August of 2016. They have brought great love and joy to our immediate family and to extended family and friends. This blog will share their stories and issues related to Shelties. Some told from their perspective and others told from those that share this journey with them. Notice: This blog does have Amazon product links and Google Adsense

Bailey's Foot
Nurse Katy is inspecting Bailey's foot after a trip to the Vet. He's had a growth on his paw for a while now and it irritates him. The Vet continues to test the growth and it is benign. Each time the determination has been to keep it under observation. We've discussed removing it with the vet, but it’s in an awkward place which would be challenging to heal.
We are hoping surgery can be avoided, but if he insists on attacking it, the Vet believes at some point surgery may be are only option regardless of the challenge of getting the wound to close after the growth is removed.
We are all saying our prayers that we can find a solution that gives him relief and doesn't damage his paw in providing it.

Clean Bill of Health
Dad took us to the vet on Saturday. Dad did warn me about the rabies shot, but he forgot to mention the several other pokes for shots, blood and that awful inhaled stuff up the nose. Katy sat bravely with me. The vet is extremely nice about letting us go to each other's visits. She seems to understand we support and encourage each other. Katy sniffed me all over when it was done and stayed by me all afternoon when I was feeling the after effects of all the pokes.
The Vet gave me a clean bill of health. I am dealing with some aging issues, but nothing that was not expected of my breed and age.

Why Katy No Longer Goes to the Vet Without Bailey
One of our first tasks when we brought Katy home was to take her to the vet. She was fully vaccinated and had been treated by the foster's vet, but we wanted to establish a relationship with our local vet before Katy needed care. We wanted to get her started on Frontline, which we did not realize at the time was far more important than we knew.
Therefore, an appointment was made and my husband got Katy ready to get in the car to go. Bailey lost it. He made every non-violent protest move he could make to keep Katy from getting her harness on and then being able to get to the door. He actually tripped my husband who landed on the floor. Bailey was terrified Katy was being sent away and doing everything in his power to prevent it. The vet has a small outer office and we were not sure how comfortable she would be if we took both dogs. Bailey cried and paced the entire time Katy was gone. I have never seen him so distressed, not even during our worst storms.
Katy was fine with the whole thing. She was not thrilled with the exam, but not many dogs love the process. However, she was amazed at the attention Bailey showered her with when she arrived home and she made the most of it.
Our Vet asked my husband where Bailey was and on hearing, his concern about bringing both had no issues with it. Now Bailey goes to the vet with my husband, but Katy always has an escort.
