Bailey and Katy came to us as rescues. We lost Bailey in June of 2016 and Katy in November of 2022. We were blessed to have Annie join us in August of 2016. They have brought great love and joy to our immediate family and to extended family and friends. This blog will share their stories and issues related to Shelties. Some told from their perspective and others told from those that share this journey with them. Notice: This blog does have Amazon product links and Google Adsense

Monday Mischief: Putting out the Holly Buckets
Mom was quite excited when she moved here to find she had Holly bushes in her own front yard. Oddly they seem to have the best berries in the summer, not the winter as all the fake Holly she's used over the years assured her she'd find. However, this year has been so warm that the bush is very berriful and Dog Dad decided the day after Thanksgiving would be a great day to do its winter trim.
The weather was very tropical for New England on the Friday after Thanksgiving. Mom was out in a short sleeved shirt and her sandals. She hates putting shoes on when its muddy. Mom loves putting out the Holly buckets full of Holly and ornaments to decorate the front yard. She and Dog Dad just never have done the whole Christmas light thing, but she does enjoy having something outside. A few years ago Santa's elves found their way home. Other outdoor decorations have not survived the brutal snow storms, so Mom recruited a gnome planter to help. She may be checking out some outdoor sales to see what she can locate.
We were very helpful supervising and making sure nobody got hurt while working with the pointy Holly.
Mom helped us send out all our digital Christmas cards this weekend to those who requested e-cards and to all those living outside the United States. We have an appointment with Santa on Saturday and hope to get our paper cards made up after that so we can get the rest of the list mailed.

You two are pawesome supervisors! And interesting that real holly doesn't have berries in Winter. We have all been fooled for years!

We can't speak for everyone's Holly, but we get tons of berries in the summer and much fewer in the winter. We suspect we are getting more now because it has been so warm. Ours may be the exception and just have a thing about the cold.
Deletevery pretty and festive
ReplyDeleteSounds like it was a great time spent by all!
ReplyDeleteAwww, you two are adorable. You need to link this post to Awww Monday too. Just saying.
ReplyDeleteHave a woof woof day you two. My best to your peeps. ☺

OMD FURST.... we want to tell you that YOURS was the FURST Christmas Card we received this year... We loved that. THANKS.
ReplyDeleteOMD you boyz look GRRRRREAT in the Holly....
Frankie I think you may have us confused with the Cowspot Dogs. The only cards we've sent have been e-cards to those who wanted them and those living in other countries. We aren't visiting Santa until Saturday, so we don't have any cards to send yet. Ours will be coming soon we promise.
DeleteHolly is so pretty. Mom kilt our holly
ReplyDeleteLily & Edward
you two are pretty as a picture. LeeAnna
ReplyDeleteI love holly. There isn't much of it in my area however.....
ReplyDeleteIt looks like everyone there is getting into the holiday spirit!
ReplyDeleteI never had much luck with holly, but I love it! I also love your santa gnomes. Very cute.
ReplyDeleteYou say a few years ago Santa's elves found their way home does that mean like in my hood someone is coming in the night to take them? Yep my neighbors first found three of their lollipop lights missing at the end of their walk so they got a home video cam setup and two nights later a women pulls up in a car and unplugged Olaf and took it. But they think the police got enough info to get their decorations back. We pray for Bailey every day.

Thanks for being a friend
We live in a neighborhood filled with cops, fireman, and DPW workers, so other than a few teens who play pranks occasionally we don't have too much trouble with people being crazy. We have a cop right next door to us, which Mom is careful to mention when crazies come to the door.
DeleteAs for the elves, Mom was out shopping with her Auntie when she was still alive and purchased the elves. She told Dad she had no idea how they arrived on the front lawn that year. (Of course she told Dog Dad the truth) However, the elves showing up was a better story than one of the many wild shopping trips Mom and Auntie went on over the years.
I haven't even started to think about christmas decorations yet! I do like the way Holly looks though.
ReplyDeleteI love Holly but we don't have any near us. We had super mild temperatures on Thanksgiving too. So mild we had the windows open! Can't remember the last time that has happened.
ReplyDeleteThe bushes came with the house.
DeleteSounds like you did a great job helping! I love Holly, too. Our weather has been fairly mild as well.
ReplyDeleteJan hasn't even started on our e-card for this year.
ReplyDeleteUh, did you know you have an annoying ad that hijacked us when we arrived?
I'm sorry that happened to you. I had DH log in from a different site and he didn't find anything. I'm not sure what happened.
DeleteSo nice to have good helpers! Sounds like you've made a good dent in the Christmas preparations! We got our tree and ordered our cards and that's about it!
