Bailey and Katy came to us as rescues. We lost Bailey in June of 2016 and Katy in November of 2022. We were blessed to have Annie join us in August of 2016. They have brought great love and joy to our immediate family and to extended family and friends. This blog will share their stories and issues related to Shelties. Some told from their perspective and others told from those that share this journey with them. Notice: This blog does have Amazon product links and Google Adsense

Katy Update
Mom has been preposting a bunch of flower pictures but she hasn't been writing many posts lately. So, I told her it was time to get back to the work of blogging.
We've been working on getting our event all set up for the Olympics. Lots of people sent in their entries and we are so grateful that so many people wanted to enter. It really is a memorial event for Bailey as he inspired Mom to ask about offering it.
I've been exploring life as a single Sheltie and learning so much. Without Bailey's help I've had to work extra hard keeping the critters in control. A new groundhog has moved into the area and he's a bit grumpy. The bunnies have exploded. Thankfully, Dog Dad managed to remove an area they were using to hide behind and that seems to have made them less aggressive. We now have chipmunks and squirrels!!
I've also been making more friends in the neighborhood. When Bailey was alive he was the social one. When we'd meet dogs, he'd greet them and I'd shyly hold back until he was done. Now I'm doing the greeting and I have specific dogs I like to find on my walks with Dog Dad. I also have humans that look forward to seeing me when I'm out as well.
Mom and Dad are also continuing to look for another Sheltie friend for me. Mom has started contacting some New England area breeders to see if anyone has any adult dogs. She's contacted the local Sheltie rescues in the areas, but nothing is happening so she's moving forward. She's made a few contacts and those contacts keep leading to other contacts. Mom is patient, so I am hopeful she'll find a good friend for me.

we hope you find a friend soon
ReplyDeleteThose groundhogs can be tough. Sherman says to pass along that he's available to help you out if you need it!
ReplyDeleteWe'd be happy to come over and help you with the critter control!!!
ReplyDeleteCammie!
We just know your peeps will find a furever Sheltie to be your companion. Critters are out of control around here too. Those squirrels and groundhogs and such must be targeting Sheltie households.
ReplyDeleteI'm sure your Mom and Dad will find you just the right friend. It just takes time to find that perfect addition to the family.
ReplyDeleteOh Katy your procession of animals sounds like "Lions, and tigers, and bears! Oh, my!" from The Wizard. I have a lot of animals around me this year also. Bunnies are multiplying like radical rabbits.
ReplyDeleteThanks for being a friend

Hi Katy! I don't know if you'll remember me, I used to blog with my two great danes Malach and Indie, but stopped when they past away. That was almost two years ago, but I am back in blogville with our very own rescue: Charlie. We are very sad to learn about Bailey not being with you anymore, and it is very heartwarming to see that you are staying positive. We hope you soon find a friend to take home! We can't wait for the Olympics to begin either! Lots of love, Anais and Charlie x
ReplyDeleteIt sounds as if you are growing as an only dog, Katie, but we can't wait until you have a new sister or brother to show around the neighborhood.
ReplyDeletewe do hope you find a buddy we soon - we see adult shelties for adoption quite often on Facebook
ReplyDeleteDo to Dog Dad's job the Mom tries to stay off the Facebook. However, some of the New England breeders are contacting other breeders to see if they can find a dog that matches us. We are hoping to find one in the 1-3 age range. We've been contacted about some older retired dogs, but at this point we are hoping to have a spread in ages.
DeleteIt's hard losing a bestest friend but it sounds like Bailey left you good instructions

Sounds like you are keeping everything in check, Katy! We think your Mama is doing a great job keeping her eye out for somepup to help you out in the yard.
